2. Pierre Abelard and Heloise - World's Famous Love Story

My eyes fill with tears when I think of unfateful love story of Abelard and Heloise. It seems like they were never meant to be together. Pierre Abelard was charismatic, handsome and a brilliant Parisian scholar. He went to the University of Paris to study at Notre Dame. He had an expertise in dialectic, teaching and poetry.


Abelard was smitten by the intellect and beauty of Heloise. He managed to convince, Fulbert, the canon of Norte Dame to become her tutor and stay in their house. Heloise was a beautiful, well-educated girl, pursuing studies in philosophical studies and had keep interest in gaining knowledge. They were two extraordinary couples who were inclined to academics. Hence, attraction between the two was inevitable.

Heloise fell deeply in love with Abelard. She conceived a child and gave birth to Asrtrolabe. Fulbert, was strictly against the alliance of Heloise with Abelard, who was more than twenty years elder than her. He rejected all the pleas of Abelard to marry her. They both got married secretly.

In vengeance, Fulbert sent his servants to castrate Fulbert. Later, Heloise went on to became a nun and Abelard sought the refuge in the monastic life. Despite all the trails, tribulations- the love of Pierre Abelard and Heloise- emerge victorious and remained in Love till eternity.
