They are hailed as an original power couples. Their initial courtship started in 1761 and their romantic relationship lasted for more than 50 long years. In between they wrote over a thousand affectionate love letters to each other. It was during the time when John was away from home for months and years. They both humbly shared each other's insight and thoughts.
John Adams was was a delegate to the Continental Congress. He was a intellectual man of an independent mind. Abigail on the other hand was a charming woman who although in the initial years missed her formal education like other woman of her time. But she had a thirst for knowledge and developed a penchant for books. She was an avid reader and it was a common factor that brought both of them together. Their alliance was arranged by family members and they were married in 1764.
It was a match made in heaven. A union of two intellectual minds and its firm foundation was laid on love and understanding. After marriage they lived on John's small farm at Braintree.
They had three sons and two daughters. Like a perfect housewife she looked after the kids and did household chores and he like a gentleman went on traveling.
Later, she did joined him on his diplomatic trips to Paris and London. Abigail, was elected second Us president and in 1801 they left White House and lived in their farm in Quincy, Massachusetts. They epitomized companionship and true love and declared love is an everlasting journey.
