3. Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal - World's Famous Love Story

Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world, most beautiful creation by man, is a true testament of an eternal love story. An enigmatic and immortal love story of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Arjumand Banu Begum, caught the eye of young prince Khurram at a market place. Mesmerized by her beauty, he bought a costly diamond for her and went to her father to announce his desires to marry her. In 1612, they both got married. Shah Jahan became a Mughal emperor in 1628. He had two other wives but Mumtaz was dearest to him. He called her Mumtaz Mahal, “jewel of the palace.” She died untimely while giving birth to their 14th child. Heartbroken emperor fulfilled his wife's last wish to built a monument for her. It took almost two decades and 20,000 workers to complete Taj Mahal. Made of white marble and adorned with precious stones and beautiful murals, Taj Mahal is a mausoleum of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.

Later when Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son in the Red Fort of Agra, he spent hours staring at Taj Mahal and remembered his beloved wife.
